Hide AdThe next meeting of Houghton U3A (University of the 3rd Age) will be in the Welfare Hall of the sports complex from 2pm-4pm on Tuesday, March 15, when the speaker will be Peter Barrow with his talk entitled Cloudy, Rain Later. The regular coffee mornings with book sales continue in Newbottle St Matthew’s Church hall each Thursday from 9.30am-11.30am, when many excellent books are available at modest cost.
Speaker at Houghton Methodists Fellowship was Ann Riding, from Hetton, who spoke about Showing Signs Of Faith so that people can recognise our role in church.
At the Rotary Club monthly business meeting in the Chilton Country Hotel, the accounts for the eight months of the financial year to date showed £3,276 used to support various worthy local, national and international projects. The club quiz team has been drawn away to Sedgefield Rotary Club in the third round of the District 1030 competition on a date yet to be confirmed.

Hide AdFormer Circuit Superintendent Minister the Reverend John McAdam, now in retirement in North Tyneside, made a welcome return to Houghton Methodist Tuesday Fellowship, where he talked about Discipleship.
At Sunniside Methodist Men’s Fellowship, Malcolm Farrow, from East Herrington, a lecturer at Newcastle University, gave an illustrated talk about the historical figures in the early development of electricity and its subsequent importance to the world.
