Lee Davis will entertain with a programme of country music and Rat Pack songs at Houghton Older People’s Enterprise in the Methodist Church hall at 1pm on Thursday. There is no meeting on March 24, which leads up to Easter.

The next Ecumenical Prayer Breakfast by Churches Together in Houghton is in the Methodists Church from 8am to 9.30am on Saturday. All denominations are welcome.

The next monthly craft fair in the Welfare Hall of the sports complex is from 10am to 2pm on Saturday. Admission is free and there will be a wide variety of stalls. Refreshments will be available.

Allan Brooks will be telling The George Elmy Story about the restoration of the Seaham lifeboat at the next meeting of the Houghton Local History Group in the Community Room of St Michael’s Kepier Hall at 6.45pm on Thursday, March 24, with refreshments included in the £2 entrance fee.

The Zazz Dance Academy in their theatre in Newbottle Street will be performing a George Michael Tribute with music by Wham at 7.30pm on Saturday, March 26. Admission is £7.50, book at the box office, phone 5840764. There is a licensed bar and ample parking close to the theatre.

Assistant Methodist Circuit Minister the Reverend Stephen Hill, from Seaham, questioned Houghton Methodist Women’s Fellowship on their Beginnings of Faith and how it developed and highlighted his own journey into the ministry.

At the Inner Wheel Club at Rainton Meadows Information Centre, Tony Edwards gave an informative and interesting talk about his 40 years as a television producer and some of the projects in which he was involved.

Dorothy Rodgers from East Herrington spoke to Sunniside Methodist Women’s Fellowship about trying to be a Role Model, talking to and setting an example to other people about the way of life.

At the Rotary Club, in the unavoidable absence of the expected speaker, president Bernard Blacklock stood in at short notice with a quiz identifying football teams from cryptic photographs.The club quiz team will play its third round knock out match in the District 1050 quiz against Sedgefield Rotary Club away at the Hardwick Arms Hotel, Sedgefield, at 7.30pm tomorrow.
