The final recital of the summer season by 'Master Musicians International' in St Michael and All Angels' Parish Church will be performed by Italian guitarist Giulio Tampalini at 7.30pm on Wednesday, June 22, with a programme of music by Rodrigo Tarrega, Ponce and Maffani. Admission is £8.

Former Circuit Superintendent Minister The Reverend John McAdam, now in retirement in North Tyneside, will talk about ‘Men in a Cloud’ at Houghton Older People’s Enterprise in the Methodists Church hall at 1pm on Thursday.

The next Ecumenical Prayer Breakfast by Churches Together in Houghton will be in the Bethany Christian Centre, on Hetton Road, from 9am to 9.30am on Saturday. All denominations are welcome.

Bill Hiley will be presenting another Stamp Collectors Fair in the Dairy Lane Bowling Club with opportunities for valuations and sales from 10am-4pm on Saturday. For further details, ring Bill on 3855225.

The regular monthly craft fair will be held in the Welfare Hall of the sports complex is from 10am-2pm on Saturday. Admission is free and refreshments will be available.

The annual barbecue in and outside of St Michael’s Kepier Hall by the ”Next 900” fundraising committee is at 7.30pm on Saturday, June 18, featuring ‘Pantastic Steel Band’ with excellent food, a large raffle and there is a licensed bar. Freda Thompson will speak to Shiney Row St Oswald’s Ladies’ Club about Sons of the Desert at 7.30pm on Wednesday, June 22.

Instead of their regular meeting in St Michael’s Kepier Hall, members of Houghton and District Local History Group will be having a tour of the historic Hillside cemetery at the top of Sunderland Street at 6pm on Thursday, June 23.

Recent speakers at Houghton Methodist Women’s Fellowship have been Lesley Stobart, a local preacher, about a holiday in America earlier in the year, and Esther Longe, from Seaham, with her views on various passages in the Bible.

At Houghton Methodist Tuesday Fellowship an open night was held where several members provided individual items of entertainment for their colleagues.

At the Rotary Club, with several members not available for a variety of reasons, there was no guest speaker after the meal and the remainder held informal discussion on various topics involved when the club starts its new year on July 1, under the presidency of Ian Anderson.

Houghton University of the Third Age (U3A) arranges activities for people who are retired or semi-retired. Monthly meetings are every thirdTuesday in the month. The next meeting is Tuesday, June 21, from 2pm to 4pm at Houghton Welfare Hall, Brinkburn Crescent. The topic will be Tall Ships.Admission is £2, which includes tea and biscuits.
