At Houghton Older People’s Enterprise in The Methodist Church hall at 1pm on Thursday, Peter Walsham will give an illustrated talk of his experiences in nurse education in China and Shanghai.

The next walks by the Sunderland Group of The Ramblers’ Association are: Sunday, Craster to Beadnell Coach Walk, about eight miles, with the coach leaving the Broadway in front of St Michael’s Parish Church at 8.30am. The next meeting of the Members of the Friends of Rectory Park will be in the community room of St Michael’s Kepier Hall at 7pm on Thursday, September 15.
Speaker at the Rotary Club was member Geoff Pratt on his visit to Malta where he enjoyed finding out about the historic stages of development of the island and Gozo, its neighbour, particularly with the British involvement since the time of the crusades and the Knights of St John, and the many well preserved ancient churches and buildings from the various stages, including the resistance during the Second World War.

Hide AdKepier WI met on Thursday, September 1, for its first meeting after the summer break. Members gave reports on the many WI events and activities they have enjoyed during that time. Members are looking forward to a number of future events. Two officers from Sunderland Neighbourhood Police gave a helpful presentation on keeping safe at home and advised on ways to deal with bogus phone calls, internet scams and unwanted callers at the door. The next meeting will be at 1.30pm on Thursday, October 6, in Kepier Hall when visitors will be welcome. Speaker will be Marjorie Goodchild, who will give a cookery demonstration on cold desserts.
