Herringtons, Farringdon and Lakeside - Down Your Way

The schedule for this year's Herrington village show taking place on Saturday, September 3, at the Scout Hut, Middle Herrington are now available.

Sections will include horticulture, cookery including sugarcraft, craft, embroidery and photography. There is also a children’s section. The major change to this year’s show is the introduction of a five vegetable display with prize money of £100. Local allotments are being circulated about this event, which is open to all gardeners. There will be a restriction of 12 stands in this section and prospective exhibitors must register their interest before with the show secretary, Leslie Scott on 5280580.

East Herrington Townswomen’s Guild will meet tonight in St Chad’s Church hall at 7.15pm. The speaker, Mavis Brennan, will give a talk on Guide Dogs for the Blind and her guide dog, Amy, will be with her. Jean Brown will be taking names for a trip to Wynyard Hall on July 15. Visitors and new are members welcome.

Herrington WI recently celebrated its 89th birthday and held a very entertaining and sociable evening with entertainment from Hildy Harland and the cake, baked by Joyce Carney, was cut by Vicky Dowson, the newest member who hales from the USA. The next meeting will be Tuesday, July 4, and the evening will have an Olympic Theme. All potential new members and visitors will be made welcome at 7pm in St Chad’s Church hall.

Music Makers Ladies’ Choir members will be joined by Sunderland Jubilate and Northern Youth Choir at their annual fundraising concert on Saturday, July 16, at 7pm. The concert will be in St Chad’s Church on Durham Road. Tickets are priced at £7 and all profits from the evening will go towards raising funds for a new Tomograph Breast Scanner at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead. Tickets can be obtained from any choir member or you can pay at the door. Support would be much appreciated.
