Herringtons, Farringdon and Lakeside - Down Your Way

The Music Makers Ladies' choir recently held its annual meeting and it was a very successful meeting. The membership has increased and currently stands at 49. LesleyAnne is the newest member and has joined the Sopranos to help swell the numbers in this the choir's 40th year of singing.

As ever a charity concert is being arranged for Saturday, July 1, at St Chad’s Church. This year’s recipients will be The Sunderland Special Olympics Group, which meets each Saturday afternoon at The Raich Carter Centre and give sports training and advice to children with both physical and mental disabilities. The age of the group is five to 21 years of age and all are made welcome. The group is totally self funding and relies on donations from individuals and groups from across the city. More details of this concert will be given in the future. In the meantime the choir will be singing with Shiney Row Male Voice Choir at St Bede’s RC Church, Jarrow, on Saturday, February 25. Entrance is £7 and will include refreshments.

Sunderland Embroiderers’ Guild had a successful Lunch meeting in January at The Rosedene and celebrated the birthday of its founder Brenda Marchbank. The next meeting will be on Saturday at the St Aidan’s Parish Centre in New Herrington at 2pm with a stitch-in from 12.30pm. The speaker will be Gaynor Devaney and her subject will be Suitcases and Sunbeams The display will be “Silk”.

Middle Herrington Methodist Church in Crow Lane will be holding its usual monthly coffee morning tomorrow from 10am to 11.30am in aid of church funds. Everyone is welcome to go along for a friendly chat and a cuppa with scones and cake.
