Sunderland Museum is hosting an exhibition on Sunderland: Then and Now – paintings, drawings and prints from the museum’s collection. There is also Sunderland Style: Then and Now – fashion from the 1940s to the 1970s. The show ends on Sunday.

Friends of Sunderland Museum (Fosums) will meet on Saturday, April 9, in Sunderland Museum, Burdon Road, at 2pm. Speaker will be Eric Fletcher on The Coming of the Railways in Sunderland. Visitors welcome and pay £1.

Sunderland Pianoforte Society will meet in the Sunderland Pottery Room at Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, Burdon Road, on Tuesday, April 12, for a recital at 7.15pm by Jens Hagen Wegner. The programme will include Liszt: Liebestraum “Seliger Tod” Liebestraum “O lieb” Harmonies poetiques et religieuses. Chopin: Sonata Op. 35. Dohnanyi: Valse Impromptu Landler Kaskaden 2 Etudes from Op. 28 Rhapsodie Op. 11Nr.3. Full subscription (6 Recitals) £60, Individual Recitals are £12.50 accompanied children (16 & under) Free, full-time students and those in receipt of benefit £6.

A friendly bridge club is looking for new members. The group meets on Mondays and Wednesday from 1pm to 4.30pm in the lounge of Beaumont Lodge, Toward Road. Partners are not needed. For further information, ring 597 1941.

Foyle Street Writers meet weekly in Sunderland City Library on Thursdays from 10am- noon.

Sunderland Antiquarian Society Archives at Sunderland Antiquarian and Heritage Centre, 6 Douro Terrace, are open for research on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9.30am-noon.

A toddler group meets on Tuesdays in Sunderland Minster from 9.30am -11.30am. Refreshments are available.
