On Saturday, the UK graphic novel expo ‘Wonderlands’ is returning to the University of Sunderland’s City Space in Chester Road. This free event, curated by Brian Talbot, runs from 10am to 6pm.

The Sunderland History Fair, arranged by Sunderland Heritage Forum will take place at the Quayside Exchange in High Street East from 10am-4pm on Saturday, June 4.

Hendon History Group will meet on Thursday at the Back on the Map Hub in Hendon’s former Carnagie Library, Villette Road, at 6.30pm. Speaker Sharon Vincent will talk about the St Ignatius War Memorial.

Heritage Coast Sunderland Durham and Hartlepool is holding a Reach for the Beach Festival. The Heritage Coast Partnership and the Fourteen Foundation has arranged a week of coastal themed activities suitable for all the family. Kite making will be held in Hendon Librabry and kite flying in Backhouse Park. Donnison School, Church Walk, was established in 1778 for girls through a provision made by Elizabeth Donnison in her will. On Saturday from 10.30am-4pm you will a chance to meet the staff and find out about school life in Victorian Sunderland. There will also be tours of the building and cream teas, guided walks of the surrounding area at 11am and 1pm. There will also by an open day on Friday, June 3, from 10am-4pm. Sunderland’s 600-year-old Ship building and repairing heritage is celebrated and maintained by the enthusiastic volunteers of Sunderland Maritime Heritage Centre, 2 Church Street East. Go along to see the work going on to preserve the artifacts, documents, photos and skills of the shipyard workers that contributed to the growth of Sunderland. See the scale model of Jack Crawford’s ship. It is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am–4pm.
