Sunderland Old Township Heritage Society held its Georgian Strawberry Tea last week.

George and the Dragon will be performed in Mowbray Park on Saturday, July 30, at 5pm and on Sunday, July31, at 11am, 2pm and 5pm starting at the Museum and Winter Gardens. It is part of the Plays in the Park.

Hendon History Group talk on The Folk of Hendon by speaker Pauline Hilton will take place on Thursday, July 28, at 6.30pm in Carnegie Community Corner (the former Hendon Library Villette Road).

Drop in sessions are held at the YMCA Centre at 2 – 3 Toward Road each Tues 2.00pm – 4.00pm. They offer advice on the types of accommodation at the YMCA for 16 – 35 yr olds. Or you can ring 0191 5676160 for advice.

The next Lovell Lecture at the Donnison School will be on Monday, July 25, from 1pm to 3pm. The Day the German Navy came to attack Sunderland: August, 18, 1916 will be talk given by Alan Owen. Entrance is £3 for visitors, members £2.50 includes refreshments. All are welcome.

Hendon Community Association, based in Seafarers Way, Moor Terrace, runs a drop-in luncheon club on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8.30am to 3.30pm. Bingo is played on Mondays from 6.30pm to 9.30pm (over 18s). For further information ring 0191 5655648.

The Donnison School Heritage and Education Centre offers something for everyone in the heart of Old Sunderland. The school was established in 1778 for young girls through a provision made by Elizabeth Donnison in her will. Go along to meet the staff and to find out about school life in Victorian Sunderland.
