Snakes Alive! The fascinating world of snakes is the title of an exhibition at Sunderland Museum. Please note that admission charges apply for this exhibition (children £2.50 adults £3.50) in addition there will be interactive snake shows up to August 30, which will cost an extra £1.50 per person. These will be held at 11am, 1pm and 2pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, except for Saturday, August 20.

Hendon Karate Club meets in Cheers public house on Wednesdays and Fridays from 6pm to 7pm. For further details, ring 07932724720.

Sunderland Antiquarian Society Archives at the Sunderland Antiquarian and Heritage Centre, 6 Douro Terrace, is open for research on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9.30am to noon.Drop-in sessions are held at the YMCA Centre from 2pm to 3pm in Toward Road each Tuesday. It offers advice on the types of accommodation at the YMCA for 16 to 35-year-olds. You can also ring 0191 5676160 for advice.

Hendon Community Association, based in Seafarers Way, Moor Terrace, runs a drop-in luncheon club on Tuesdyas and Thursdays from 8.30am to 3.30pm. Bingo is held on Mondays from 6.30pm to 9.30pm (over 18s). For further information, ring 0191 5655648.

Sunderland Maritime Heritage Centre, 2 Church Street East, is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free. Go along to hear about future plans while having free cup of tea or coffee. You may even end up becoming one of its volunteer workers. Thanks to all those who donated artefacts which will enable members to authenticate the shipyard experiences for school visits. Has anyone got a pewter model of an SD14 (these were given to all Pickersgill workers) that you would like to loan or donate? Don’t forget to look in your attics and have a good clear out.
