Friends of Sunderland Museum (Fosums) will meet on Saturday, November 12, in Sunderland Museum, Burdon Road, at 2pm. Speaker will be Peter Welsh on What Did You Do in The War Mummy? Women in the Great War. Visitors are welcome, charge £2.

Sunderland Old Township Heritage Society will hold a First World War Remembrance Service at Sunderland Old Parish Church on Saturday, November 12, at 2pm. It is an opportunity to remember all our loved ones that have fallen in battle. Go along to this poignant service. Refreshments will be served at Donnison School.

Toddler Group meets on Tuesdays at Sunderland Minster from 9.30am to 11.30am. Refreshments are available for parents and children.

Foyle Street Writers meet every Wednesday at Sunderland City Library from 10am to noon. Members share ideas and support fellow creative writers. New members are welcome.

Snakes Alive, focuses on the fascinating world of snakes, at Sunderland Museum. Please note that reduced admission charges apply for this exhibition (children £1.50 adults £2.50). In addition there will be ‘Meet the Snakes’ interactive snake shows at 11am, 1pm and 2pm on Saturday. Cost is £2.50 per person but are not suitable for children under the age of five.

Sunderland Antiquarian Society Archives at Sunderland Antiquarian and Heritage Centre, 6 Douro Terrace are open for research on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9.30am to noon.

Book an afternoon tea for you and your friends (six or over) for a celebration in Donnison School, a Grade II listed building. Cost is £7 per person and includes coffee or tea with scones, sandwiches and cakes also an illustrated talk. Drop in sessions are held at the YMCA Centre, 2- 3 Toward Road, each Tuesday from 2pm to 4pm. It offers advice on the types of accommodation at the YMCA for 16 to 35-year-olds. You can also ring 0191 5676160 for advice.
