Craig Hignett today made three changes to his Hartlepool United side for the League Two game against relegation-threatened York City at Victoria Park.

Matthew Bates returned at the heart of the defence with Rob Jones rested.

Jake Carroll also resumed, reclaiming the left-back spot from Michael Duckworth who was pushed forward into a wide midfield role against his former club.

Jake Gray, like Jones, was also rested after a long and successful run in the side.

Nathan Thomas came back after missing the 1-0 defeat at Notts County on Tuesday night.

Teenage winger Jack Blackford, offered his first professional contract by the club, was brought into the matchday squad for the first time having been named among the substitutes.

Pools: Carson, Magnay, Bates, Jackson, Carroll, Featherstone, Hawkins, Woods, Duckworth, James, Thomas.

Subs: Bartlett, Richards, Laurent, Walker, Bingham, Oates, Blackford.
