The players are due to meet in Manchester next week and the call-up boosts Carson's hopes of making it into their squad for the Euro 2016 tournament in France this summer.

The 28-year-old will link-up with the international squad on Monday and spend four days training with them as preparations continue.

Carson, named as Fans’ and Players’ Player of the Year on Wednesday night, was on the bench for Northern Ireland for their game against Wales in March.

The former Sunderland and Cheltenham Town stopper also received the Community Player of the Year trophy.

The call-up to the training camp caps a good week for Carson.

"It’s fantastic to get the recognition of the supporters and the award from the lads who I play and train with every day," he said.

"It’s something special, it really does mean a lot.

"Sometime in the future I hope I can be that too."

The keeper - who has been in stunning form all season - will be hoping his performances will help him earn a place in the final Northern Ireland squad when they travel to France for the European Championships in July.
