Hartlepool man dies after falling from scaffolding in Manchester during early hours

A man who died after falling from a building in Manchester city centre is believed to have come from Hartlepool.

The emergency services were called to Aytoun Street in the Piccadilly area of the city at about 3.30am today.

When they arrived they found a 21-year-old man with fatal injuries.

It is thought the victim had climbed scaffolding around a NCP car park on Circus Street prior to the fall.

An investigation has been launched and Greater Manchester Police are appealing for witnesses as they piece together what happened.

The force has not confirmed the identity of the man, but it is believed he is from the Hartlepool area.

Detective Inspector Vicki Kenyon from GMP’s City Centre team said: “This is a tragic loss of a young man’s life.

"My thoughts are with his family at this horrific time.

"I hope to give his family the answers they will be looking for so I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come and speak to me.

"I currently have an open mind as to the circumstances surrounding his death."
