The next meeting of the Sunderland Conservative Women's Organisation will be tomorrow in the Community Centre, Stannington Grove, at 2pm. The guest speaker will be Shirley Miller on Victim of Domestic Abuse to Survivor. Everyone is welcome to attend.

St Michael’s Residents’ Association, chaired by Bryan Tuddenham, met last week when ward residents were joined by local Community Police Officers, who gave out the updated crime figures. In addition Councillors Michael Dixon, Margaret Forbes and Peter Wood updated the meeting on a variety of ward and city-wide issues. The next meeting will be the AGM, to be held on Wednesday,April 13, at 6.30pm, at the usual venue, Auckland Homes, Hill View Road.

Ashmore Residents’ Association met last week at the British Legion Club, Grange Crescent. Various issues were discussed, including parking, planning, the new nursery in Gorse Road, plus antisocial behaviour. Local Police Officers were joined by St Michael’s Ward Councillors Michael Dixon and Peter Wood in reporting to residents. In addition the chair, Liz Griffiths, extended thanks to Councillor Margaret Forbes at her final meeting before retirement, for all the hard work and support of the residents’ association over the years. The next meeting will held at the same venue, on May 11, at, 7.30pm.

Friends of Backhouse Park and Barley Mow Park held their latest meeting last week at the Back on the Map building, Villette Road. Various issues were discussed including funding, plus future maintenance and proposed improvements to both parks. Joining local residents was St Michael’s Ward Councillor Michael Dixon. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 12th April at 7pm, same venue, when Pauline Hilton will give a talk on Backhouse Park/Hendon

Ashbrooke Residents’ Association held its AGM earlier this month at the Age UK Building, Stockton Road. The following officers were elected: Mary Todner, Chairwoman, Kash Dagg, secretary, James Lowther, treasurer, Audrey Pringle, vice-treasurer, plus Jackie Gill, Richard Welsh and Anne Walmsley, committee. Joining residents and officers were St Michael’s Councillors Michael Dixon and Peter Wood, who were both thanked for their support. In a short speech, Peter Wood paid tribute to the hard work carried out by the association on a variety of issues throughout the past year

St Michael’s Ward Councillors ,Michael Dixon, Margaret Forbes and Peter Wood, will hold their latest ward surgery tomorrow in the St Nicholas Church hall, off Queen Alexandra Road, from 10am-11am.

Yoga for Beginners is held on Thursdays in St Nicholas Church hall, Queen Alexandra Road, from 10am-11.30am, with a British Wheel of Yoga Teacher. Contact Christine Reed on 07999524707 for details.

A local Scout Group is looking for new members, both male and female, aged between 6 to14 years old. Everyone is most welcome. The group meets in St George’s Church, Belvedere Road/Stockton Road on a Monday night from 6pm until 7-15pm.
