Around the world there are 1.3million Rotarians and one of their main targets is the elimination of polio. The Rotary Club of Sunderland, along with 33,000 other Rotary Clubs, has contributed millions of dollars to support immunisation teams since 1985. Polio is incurable but completely vaccine preventable and has been reduced worldwide by 99.9%. We are so close to seeing the end of polio with a few cases reported this year in Nigeria and Afghanistan. Rotarians will redouble their efforts to ensure the world is polio free in the next few years

Thornholme Residents’ Association meeting will be held on Monday, October 10, at 6pm in Ashbrooke Sports Club.

The next Northumbria Police “PACT” meeting for St Michael’s ward will take place tonight at Auckland Homes, Hill View Road, at 6 pm. All ward residents are welcome to attend

The next meeting of the Ashbrooke Residents’ Association will be on Thursday at the Age UK Building, Stockton Road, at 5.30pm.

St Michael’s ward Councillors, Michael Dixon, Robert Oliver and Peter Wood, will hold their next ward surgery tomorrow at St Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church hall, Ryhope Road, from 10am to 11am.

St Michael’s Residents’ Association held its latest meeting last week at Auckland Homes, Hill View Road. There was a very good attendance from residents when a number of important issues were discussed with the local police officer and ward Councillors Michael Dixon, Robert Oliver and Peter Wood. The next meeting is at the same venue, on Wednesday, October 5, at 6.30pm.

Friends of Backhouse Park and Barley Mow Park will meet on Tuesday, September 13, at the Back-on-the Map building (ex-Hendon branch library) at 6.15pm.
