Game of Thrones star takes centre stage in South Shields

A Game of Thrones star will be swapping the screen for the stage to celebrate film makers of the future in South Tyneside today.

Game of Thrones star Ben Crompton, pictured on a visit to Arbeia Roman Fort in South Shields, will be back in town tonight to celebrate the borough's film talents of the future.

Ben Crompton, who plays Eddison Tollett in the mega hit fantasy series, will be the special guest host of the Custom Reels Short Film Awards at the Customs House, in Mill Dam, South Shields, at 6pm this evening.

The Stockport-born actor has wowed the show's legions of fans since making his debut in the second season of the long-running HBO series.

Now the talented performer will be sharing the spotlight with budding movie stars eager to showcase their cinematic skills.

Ben, who has appeared in beloved BBC show Dr Who and starred on the big screen in 102 Dalmations, is embracing his latest role as presenter for an evening of glitz and glamour at the popular borough culture spot.

Local TV stars Chris Slater and Sam Haillay will cast an eye over the budding movie marvels as judges for the night.

The Customs House will be transformed into the site of a blockbuster movie premier - complete with red carpet entry to the big bash.

The awards is all part of the Takeover Festival, which has been organised by 15 to 24-year-olds, to put the creative talents of young artists on display.

Daniel Clifford, Cultural Development Officer at the Customs House, has helped to organise the festival: “The week is going really well, and we’ve had plenty of young people attending, which is great. The team behind The Takeover has worked so hard to make it happen, it’s good to see their commitment and dedication pay off.

The red carpet reception gets underway at 6pm, with the awards show open to the public.

Film lovers can pay an admission price of their choice to join in with the fun.
