Fulwell, Roker and Seaburn - Down Your Way

Monkwearmouth Drama Group will be presenting Oliver Twist on June 2, 3 and 4 in the Priestman Hall, St Andrew's Church, Roker, at 7.30pm. For tickets, email [email protected] or go in person to the Priestman Hall. Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for children. You can also pay at the door. The group is always in need of new members and even at this stage you could still play a part in Oliver Twist.

Roker United Reformed Church Fellowship will meet on Tuesday, May 17, at 2pm. Speaker Barbara Mitchell will talk on Bhutan with pictures. All are welcome to join members.

Monkwearmouth Parish YPF (Young People’s Fellowship) is putting together a “Big Brekkie” to raise funds for Christian Aid during Christian Aid week. It will be held in the Priestman Hall at St Andrew’s Church on Saturday and all are welcome. Breakfast will be served from 9.30am to 10.30am followed by guest speaker Emma Peake, from Christian Aid. There will be an admission of £2 per person to cover cost of breakfast.There will also be a cake stall and raffle, as well as a collection basket for any additional donations.

Sunderland Community Lecture will take place tomorrow at the University of Sunderland in the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter’s. Speaker will be Bernard Hope with a talk entitled The Easter Rising, 1916. This year is the centenary of the Easter Rising in Dublin. The reaction to this revolt was brutal, but the long term result was the creation of the Irish Republic. This free lecture starts at 2.30pm with registration at 2pm in the Prospect Building.

The Parish of Monkwearmouth invites you to a Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving to remember loved ones in All Saints’ Church on tomorrow at 1pm. It will be followed by light refreshments in the vestry meeting room with the opportunity to talk or sit quietly in church. Service will last about 20 minutes.

Letters to Myself is a new participatory arts and theatre show. It is at its heart, a letter writing project that hopes to give participants an opportunity for self reflection. The project looks at what we would say to our past, present or future selves, what we wish we could say to the people we love or just what we wish everyone knew. The session will be held on Wednesday, May 18, from 1pm-5pm-in session at Fulwell Library, Dene Lane.There will also be a Letters to Myself Writing Workshop for beginners at Fulwell Library that evening from 5pm -6pm. Bede’s Bake House at St Peter’s, Monkwearmouth, will remain closed for until Monday, May 30, while stained glass windows are being fitted. The furniture in the Bake House is also being replaced with new oak monastic refectory tables.

Wearside Field Club will meet tonight at 7.30pm in Fulwell Community Centre, Chapman Street. Speaker will be Sharon Vincent onThe Army in World War 1. Bookings will be taken for the walk at Barnard Castle and Middleton in Teesdale, led by Sandra Boyers as well as the June walk at Hexham, led by stuart Miller. All are welcome.

Fulwell Art Club exhibition is at present on show in Fulwell Library people can view the many wonderful paintings, some of which can be purchased. Its worth going along.

Fulwell Community Association’s AGM will take place tomorrow at 7pm in the centre, Chapman Street, Fulwell. Business, to elect officers and committee and receive reports and accounts.

Wearside Photo Imaging is a small camera club of photographic enthusiasts, who meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month at Fulwell Community Association, Chapman Street at 7pm. Activities are many and aimed at increasing knowledge in photography and image manipulation. New members are welcome.
