Fulwell, Roker and Seaburn - Down Your Way

Monkwearmouth Drama Group will be presenting the play Oliver Twist on June 2, 3 and 4h in the Priestman Hall, St Andrew's Church, Roker, at7.30pm. For tickets, email [email protected] or go along to Priestman Hall. Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for children. You can also pay at the door. New members are always needed and even at this stage you could still play a part in Oliver Twist.

The Salvation Army, in Roker Avenue, Ladies’ Fellowship will hold a fundraising musical concert on Saturday, June 4, at 7pm. The concert will include North East Brass Ensemble, Louise Weigend vocalist and Springwell Village Primary School singing group. Admission is £5 for adults, children are free.

Fulwell WI will meet tonight in Fulwell Community Centre, Chapman Street, at 7.15pm. Speaker Bernard Hope will talk about The Titanic – Truths and Myths. Table-top sale will be scarves. All ladies are welcome.

Fulwell Neighbourhood Watch meeting will take place on Thursday at 6pm in Fulwell Community Centre, Chapman Street. There is usually a police presence. Ward councilors attend when possible. All are welcome.

All Saints’ Mothers’ Union will meet in the Vestry Meeting Room at All Saints’ Church on Monday, May 23, at 2pm. Speaker will be David Henderson.

Pam and Melanie, from Fulwell WI, have taken over three derelict allotment plots on Shields Road, Sunderland. They are hoping to turn these into community allotments for people who would like to be part of a community and enjoy the outdoor life and gardening. If you would like to help in clearing the allotments and eventually have a piece of land to grow your own produce on the site, contact Pam on 01915484764 or 07920427982 or Melanie on 07809434561 to arrange a meeting. This venture is run by Fulwell WI and paid for by charitable donations and events and the people who receive plots do not pay for them.

All Saints’ Ladies’ Fellowship meets in the vestry meeting room at All Saints’ Church, Fulwell Road, tomorrow at 7.45pm. All ladies are welcome.

Seaburn (Men’s) Probus Club meets in Roker Methodist Church, at the junction of Lonsdale Road and Roker Park Road, tomorrow at 10am. New members would be very welcome.

Due to bank holidays and summer vacations, Monkwearmouth Local History Group will be on holiday in June, July and August. The group will recommence on Monday, September 5.

Sunderland Philatelic Society will meet in the hall of Roker Methodist Church, on the corner of Roker Park Road and Lonsdale Road, tomorrow at 7pm for the AGM and Bourse. Members will discuss the society’s business and elect officers. For further information call Fred Greener on 3852196.

Letters to Myself is a new participatory arts and theatre show. It is at its heart, a letter writing project that hopes to give participants an opportunity for self-reflection. The project looks at what we would say to our past, present or future selves. What we wish we could say to the people we love or just what we wish everyone knew. It will take place tomorrow from 1pm-5pm in Fulwell Library, Dene Lane, Fulwell (drop-in). Also tomorrow from 5pm-6pm there will be a Letters to Myself writing workshop for beginners again in Fulwell Library. Ringl 0191 561 5260 to book.
