Monkwearmouth Drama Group will be starting rehearsals for the pantomime Dick Whittington on July 25 at 7.30pm in St Andrew's Church hall, Roker. There are lots of parts available for men, women, boys and girls. Anyone aged under 16 must be accompanied by a parent. Redby Community Centre has vacancies on some mornings and evenings. Anyone wishing to start a group, ring 548 4515 or call in and ask for Norma. A coffee morning will be held in Priestman Hall, St Andrew’s Church, Roker, on Saturday 10am to 11.30am. Tea, coffee and a fresh cream strawberry scones will be on the menu. Entrance is £1.50 and all proceeds are for church funds.

Green Watch Fire Crew invited students from the WEA English and mathematics courses, held at Fulwell Community Resource Centre, to visit the new fire station at Marley Park. The students had a fantastic afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed watching the Bronto Skylift in action and using the water hoses. Coun Julie Jackson, who regularly supports Pam Davis, WEA tutor, to arrange visits for her students, also went on the visit. The students would like to say a huge thank you to Green Watch. Feel good and have fun at HOPS, 30 Roker Park Road (Quaker House), SR6 9PG, which is holding taster treatments (must be booked) tomorrow from 4pm to 7pm. There will be laughter workshops, meditation in motion, cream teas, books and plants also an informal concert. Ring 0191 548 3722 to book.

Fulwell WI will meet on Tuesday, July 19, in Fulwell Community Centre, Chapman Street, at 7.15pm. Speaker Bill Saunders will give A Brief History of the Co-operative Movement. The table- top sale will be jam.

A Fulwell ward surgery will be held in Fulwell Library, Dene Lane, on Saturday from 10.30am to 11.30am. Ward Councillors Howe or Francis will be in attendance.

Wearside Field Club will meet tonight at 7.30pm in Fulwell Community Centre, Chapman Street, Fulwell. Speaker Dr Winifred Stokes will talk about Victorian Women and their Money. Bookings will be taken for this month’s walk at Leyburn, led by Stuart Miller. It will be Leyburn 1940s weekend. The August walk at Keswick will be led by Allan and Norma Major.

Sunderland North Business Centre runs free play sessions for children aged eight to 10, at the Seaburn Centre on Fridays from 4pm to 5.30pm. There are also sessions for young people afed 11 to 19 on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm. Other sessions for 11 to 19 years take place at Monkwearmouth Academy on Mondays and Thursday from 6pm to 8pm.

Model student Paige Dodds, 14, trains at Redby Karate Club on a Tuesday. Sessions are held from 5.30pm to 6.30pm (beginners) and 6.30pm to 7.30pm (high grades).
