The Wearside Field Club next meets on Tuesday, December 13, at 7.30pm, in Fulwell Community Centre, Chapman Street, Fulwell. The speaker is Stuart Miller with a talk entitled '˜The Building of the River Wear'. This is followed by mince pies. All are welcome.

All Saints Mothers’ Union meet in the Vestry Meeting Room at All Saints’ Church on Monday, December 12, at 2pm. There will be Christmas tea, blessings from MU members and a healthy and peaceful New Year.

Carols by Candlelight at the Salvation Army, Roker Avenue, on Tuesday, December 13, at 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend.

Students from WEA Literacy course at Fulwell Resource Community Centre enjoyed a day at Marley Park Community Fire Station with Firefighters from Green Watch. The students made use of the lecture room, which is available for the community to use. They enjoyed a film and lunch event as part of their learning experiences organised by tutor Pam Davis. Firefighters from Green Watch joined the group after they returned from an emergency call out. It was a special day.

Thjere is a Christingle Service at St Andrew’s Church, Talbot Road, Roker, on Sunday, December 11, at 4pm.

Sunderland Philatelic Society will meet in the hall of Roker Methodist Church on the corner of Roker Park Road and Lonsdale Road tomorrow at 7pm. It will be an ‘auction’ - can you spot a bargain? For further information call Fred Greener on 0191 385 2196.

Seaburn (Men’s) Probus Club meets in Roker Methodist Church at the junction of Lonsdale Road and Roker Park Road tomorrow at 10am. New members are welcome to see what the club has to offer.

Santa and his Rotary helpers will soon be touring the Seaburn, Fulwell and Roker areas bringing Christmas wishes to the young at heart. Weather permitting Santa will be out and about on this coming week: Sunday at Alston Crescent and adjacent streets, starting at 4pm; Monday at the ‘D’ streets off Sea Road; Tuesday at Dovedale Road and streets down to Monkwearmouth Academy; Wednesday, December 14, at Sidecliff Road and Park Lea Road area returning by Neale Street; Thursday, December 15, at Roker Baths Road and streets on the north side; and on Sunday, December 18, at South Bents estate, starting at 4pm.

Digital Camera Club at the Bedehive in the Bakehouse at St Peter’s Church, Monkwearmouth, on Monday evenings 7pm to 9pm. From beginners to experienced photographers, learn new skills and techniques. There is a £2 weekly membership.

Ballroom dancing has re-started at the Naval Club in Roker Avenue on Wednesdays at 8pm. Entrance fee is £1.50. All are welcome.

Balletbefit adult classes are at Fulwell Community Centre, Chapman Street. Fitness with a difference. Accessible to everyone, suitable for all abilities and no need to have previous dance experience. Monday evenings 7pm to 9pm. Workout to dance inspired shaping and exercise classes in a hugely enjoyable way to improve strength, grace and poise.
