Footballers will be taking on one 'heel' of a challenge to help them hit their fundraising goal.

Seaham Coast FC is staging a high-heeled walk on Saturday to raise cash.

The route will take coaches, parents and friends of the club from Nose’s Point at Dawdon, to a finishing line outside the Black Truffle cafe, on Bath Terrace, starting from 11am.

Spectators are welcome to turn out to cheer on the chaps, as they take on the sponsored mile-long stagger.

Tom Thynne, 35, is the club’s chairman and put together the first walk last year, after wife Laurie, 40, came up with the idea.

Tom, who is dad to Jaeden, 11, said: “We did it for the first time last year and we’ve got more interested in it this time round, so we’ll probably do it again towards the end of August.

“We’ve got a few coaches and a couple of other people who have signed up to do it so far.

“It’s the kind of thing which brings people into Seaham and we hope there’s a good turnout to cheer them on.

“Laurie got the idea after watching something on the Housewives of Brooklyn, because she watches that and they did something similar in New York.

“The money will help us pay for transport.

“Sometimes games are just local, other times we go to tournaments, so we go to places such as Skegness.

“The parents pay for them to go, but if we can raise enough we can help them out and we don’t have to always depend on the parents.”

The club has 14 teams, which takes in seven to 17-year-olds.

Sides play in the Russell Foster League.

Cedar Court care home in Portland Avenue, Deneside, Seaham, are also preparing to hold a men’s fancy dress high-heel walk in aid of its residents’ fund.

It will take place on Wednesday, from 10.30am and will be held around the car park area at Nose’s Point.

The home is also planning a street party to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday on June 11.
