Firefighters tackle Sunderland garage fire

Firefighters have tackled a fire in a garage in Sunderland.

A fire engine.

Two fire engines - one from Marley Park and one from South Shields - were called to an address in Castletown at 2.44pm today.

A garage attached to a single-storey end terraced cottage had caught fire.

A quantity of old furniture and rubbish, which was stored inside was 100% severely damaged by the fire.

The i newsletter cut through the noise

the garage itself was 30% damaged by fire and 70% damaged by heat and smoke.

The cottage was unaffected.

Two hose reels, two breathing apparatus, one positive pressure ventilation fan and one thermal imaging camera were used to put out the fire.
