Firefighters free horse after animal became trapped inside trailer

Firefighters had a tail to tell after going to the rescue of a horse which became trapped in a trailer.

Crews from Durham and bishop Auckland White watch went to the the rescue of chestnut gelding Dante after a call for help as the horse and his owner were near Houghall College in Durham.

A spokesperson for County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said: “The call came into our control room at 2.30pm and two appliances attended along with the Target response vehicle from Durham and the Special Rescue Unit from Bishop Auckland.

"Dante had unfortunately managed to get his front legs stuck on the breast bar of the trailer, but thanks to the swift action of our crews and under the watchful eye of a local vet managed to free Dante much to the delight of his owner.”

The incident happened on Sunday, July 12.
