Fire service thanks as Sunderland community supports crews responding to house blaze

Firefighters were called to make a Sunderland home safe after a fire began in the kitchen of the property.

Crews from across the Sunderland area attended a house fire at an address in Abercorn Road, Farringdon, with firefighters called to the scene at around 7.30pm on Thursday, May 7.

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS) confirmed that the cause of the blaze was a grill pan, which had set on fire.

TWFRS thanked residents living nearby for their support while crews dealt with the incident on Thursday.

A Tweet from the offical TWFRS account added: “A big thank you to the residents in Farringdon who showed their appreciation to our green watch crews while dealing with a house fire tonight.

“Watch Manager Andy Smith said it was very humbling.”
