Fire crews called out to fire near Stadium of Light

Fire crews have attended a fire at an unused building on the Sheepfolds Industrial Estate near the Stadium of Light in Sunderland.

Firefighters from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS) have attended to a fire at a derelict building on the Sheepfolds Industrial Estate this afternoon (Tuesday, June 16).

Two crews, both from Sunderland central, received reports of the incident and arrived at the building, just off Millennium Way at around 12.30pm.

Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control and left the scene at around about half-an-hour later.

A spokeswoman for TWFRS said: “Two crews from Sunderland central attended a fire at a derelict property at the Shepfolds Industry Estate this afternoon.

The fire service has said it does not yet know the cause of the blaze.
