Fans deserve team victory

It makes me wonder what Sam Allardyce would have achieved if he had been in charge since the beginning of the season.

He had to inherit a squad devoid of ideas, skill and, lacking in self-belief.

If he had arrived at the beginning of the season, I am sure, he would have brought in more quality earlier on.

His signings in the January transfer window, a window that at this time of the year has very little quality players available, it seems big Sam has found a few diamonds.

These include Lamine Kone, who is built like a “man mountain” and surely deserved to be awarded with the goal the other Saturday against Manchester United. Jan Kirchoff has great qualities that proved the doubters wrong in his home debut against Manchester City, with a man of the match performance.

There is also Tunisian Wahbi KKhazri, who was awarded man of the match against Man Utd who has certainly shone in all his games so far, and scored a quality goal. Dame N Doye has quality in him to do a job up front.

But to beat Manchester United, who have a squad of player’s worth a “quarter billion pounds” is a great achievement. They are supposed to be the diamonds of the Premiership but have been as dull a wet weekend in Blackpool.

But Allardyce has certainly an eye for talented players.

Yes, it is early days yet, but I believe that Big Sam can pull off another great escape, and build a competent squad capable of challenging for major honours in the next few seasons.

He has breathed new life in a squad that lacked confidence and self -belief.

Sunderland fans deserved the team’s victory against Man Utd. Their loyalty is second to none in football today.

Their support of their team is special.

It is time they were given something back, too many years of hurt has never stopped their fantastic support for their team.
