Ex-Sunderland keeper Trevor Carson signs long-term Hartlepool United contract

Craig Hignett has tied player of the season contender Trevor Carson to a new long-term contract at Hartlepool United.

The keeper is understood to have agreed a three-year deal at Victoria Park.

Carson, an astute summer signing by previous boss Ronnie Moore, missed the opening 15 games bevcause of injury.

But since then the ex-Sunderland stopper has been an outstanding performer and played a key role in the side's seven-game unbeatren run which catapulted Pools out of relegation trouble and into mid-table.

Carson's form also led to an international call-up last month for Northern Ireland and was on the bench for the 1-1 draw against Wales in Cardiff.

It was the fourth bit of contract business by Hignett in the space of 24 hours.
