The controversial Senegal striker - who failed to score for Sunderland - played alongside Ferdinand at the Stadium of Light in the 2008-09 campaign.

He joined from Bolton in the summer of 2008, signing a four-year deal with the Black Cats, but failed to impress and was sold less than less six months later to Blackburn Rovers.

It comes as Diouf has reignited his war of words with former Liverpool team-mates Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard in an extraordinary expletive-laden interview.

On Ferdinand, 35-year-old Diouf said: "We were not fighting, I sorted him out, before we were separated.

"I said to him, 'Let's go to the gym, I will take you on.' He did not want to. I said, 'You are like your brother... you walk like him, you eat like him - write your own story.'

"Inevitably, it was difficult in terms of atmosphere, I spent six months there. We were not a team.

"There were little [expletive] in the group who thought they were the best but they were crap. Anton, he was the number one [expletive]."

The pair again crossed paths again in a Manchester nightclub, report Eurosport.

Diouf added: "I ignored him; that must have bothered him, so he came over to test me. I'm a man, I can defend myself.

"If there is a crazy guy who wants to take me on, I'll show him that I'm crazier than him.

"The first of his friends who came too close to me, he ended up running away.

"Since I was drinking champagne, I broke my glass and I attacked them… I came out unscathed, and since then, the club now uses plastic glasses."

Diouf, who also played for Rennes, Lens, Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers, has now retired from football.

But he harbours ambitions of becoming a politician in Senegal.

He added: "After El-Hadji Diouf the footballer, you will see El-Hadji Diouf the businessman and politician! In Saint-Louis, everyone is waiting for me, they want me to become mayor.

"With my background and knowledge, I will make one of the most beautiful cities in Africa. I am going to change things for my country.

"Football or politics: whatever I do, it's incredible."
