Ex-Manchester United man has several contract offers after Sunderland release

Released Sunderland defender Wes Brown has several contract offers to prolong his career after joining Blackburn Rovers for pre-season training.

Brown is a free agent after Sunderland opted against extending his five-year stint at the Stadium of Light, with the ex-England international beginning training with Championship Blackburn earlier this week.

New Blackburn boss Owen Coyle will run the rule over the 36-year-old throughout the pre-season programme, before deciding whether to offer him a contract at Ewood Park.

But Coyle admits Blackburn are not the only side to have approached Brown, with a number of clubs eager to land the former Manchester United man.

“Wes Brown has had such an illustrious career and is an outstanding player,” said Coyle.

“The games he played last year with Sunderland in the Premier League, he was an outstanding player.

“I said to Wes come in and enjoy his pre-season and have a look at things.

“He has a number of offers on the table and he was in no rush.

“So I said, ‘Why don’t you come in, enjoy what you’re doing here, feel good about your game, and you and I will have a chat going forward’.

“It’s as simple as that.”

Blackburn have already moved to sign one released Sunderland player this summer after Danny Graham penned a two-year deal last week.

And Graham’s ex-Sunderland team-mate Steven Fletcher could also be closing in on a new club, amidst reports that relegated Norwich City want the Scottish international on a Bosman deal.
