Bin collection dates in Sunderland over Christmas and New Year

Sunderland families are being reminded that normal waste and recycling collection days will change over Christmas and New Year.

Sunderland City Council announced changes to its collection schedule for Christmas.

Collections will be revised between Christmas Day until after new year, with the schedule to return to normal from Tuesday January 5 2021.

Thursday 24 December – No change

Friday 25 December – Monday 28 December

Tuesday 29 December – No change

Wednesday 30 December – No change

Thursday 31 December – No change

Friday 1 January – Saturday 2 January

Residents are also urged to recycle all they can over the festive period.

Items you can recycle in your blue bin:

Plastic/glass drinks bottles, cans, glass jars and plastic bottles (all rinsed out)

Aerosols

Dry cardboard, cardboard boxes and food boxes (flatten them first)

Wrapping paper tubes

Chocolate/sweet tins and tubs

Paper, newspapers and magazines goes in the black box (caddy) of your blue bin. Don't forget you can recycle the envelopes from your Christmas cards too

Items which can’t be recycled in your blue bin:

Christmas cards with glitter, bows or ribbons on them

Wrapping paper

Batteries

Polystyrene packaging

Any containers with food waste on them, including take away pizza boxes - this is because of the grease residue that remains on the cardboard
