Emergency services take part in three-hour rescue operation on coast at Marsden

Northumbria Police, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS), Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team and South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade were called shortly before 9pm on Wednesday, December 4 to assist a person on the cliff edge at Marsden.
Fire crews from South Shields, Hebburn and Marley Park fire stations attended the scene and worked alongside police negotiators to collate a rescue operation.

Hide AdSunderland Coastguard Rescue Team confirmed its attendance alongside Tynemouth RNLI and all-weather lifeboat and the North East Ambulance Service.
A TWFRS spokesman said its rope rescue officers assisted two police negotiators in using a harness to rescue the person involved.
The person was then brought to safety and remains in the care of Northumbria Police, the fire service added. The incident was brought to a close shortly before midnight.
