The northbound carrigeway of the A19 closed in County Durham after a car left the carriageway.

Highways England said the road closed between the A182 at Murton and A1018 at Seaton on Friday, January 17 at around 6.30pm.

A Durham Constabulary spokesman said: “There has been a road traffic accident and emergency services are still there dealing with it. The road is still closed.”

A North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed the service had attended the scene, and said: “We were called at 6.35pm to a report of a road traffic collision on the northbound A19 at Seaton.

“We sent an ambulance, a specialist paramedic and requested the support of a doctor from the Great North Air Ambulance Service.”

Traffic was diverted around the closure, with drivers encouraged to follow the solid circle signs.

The route fully re-opened shortly before 11.30pm on Friday.
