Alice Morton said: 'For anyone who's known me for more than five minutes knows how much I love my hair and I'm making a donation so that a little boy or girl who is suffering can have a little bit of normality back in their lives so please help me make a difference.' Alice is supporting the Little Princess Trust that provides real-hair wigs, free, to boys and girls who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment and other illnesses. It cost the Little Princess Trust Â£300 to supply a wig to a child undergoing chemotherapy. Alice has a Just Giving page or can be reached through her home or church connections. She is well known for her work in the community, with the Guides, the Annual Scarecrow competition and church and was nominated by Easington Village Parish Council for a Durham County Council Young Person's Award and reached the last three.

Easington Ladies’ Circle is holding a bingo evening in Seaton Holme on Tuesday, February 9, at 7.30pm. All welcome.

There will be no toddler praise or nearly new at the Church of the Ascension until further notice. A big thank you to Olive who gave so much help with so much joy. It is still hoped to carry on the nearly new project but it may be at a different time.

Easington Activity Programme is holding a children’s disco in Easington Colliery Social Welfare Centre on Monday, February 15, from 1pm to 3pm. Entertainment will be by DJ Marky Mark, mascots Minnie and Mickie Mouse and there will be a free bouncy castle. For a charge there will be face painting, glitter tattoos, raffle, tombola and refreshments. Tickets for adults and children are £1 from Clare on 07748238471. Activities are funded by Durham County Council Councillors David Boyes and Angela Surtees from their neighbourhood budget.

There will be a messy church on Sunday at 4pm in St Mary’s Church with crafts, hymns, prayers and tea.

Male singer Kev Mack will be appearing at Easington Colliery Club and Institute on Thursday. Followed on Saturday by The Mutts and Sunday The Edge.

Seaham and Easington Police congratulated Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSOs) from Easington Colliery Primary School, who were out in force promoting road safety messages with the help of parents, teachers and Easington Neighbourhood policing team. The job of the JRSOs is to spread road safety messages by running competitions, speaking in school assemblies, creating a noticeboard and organising campaigns. The Durham County Council-run scheme has recently been introduced and the children are working with the council’s road safety officer and local policing team to promote safety. Thanks to funding from the local county councillor the schoolchildren have been able to design eye-catching banners and have recently ran a competition to design their own parking ticket, safety message. Well done to the students of Easington Colliery primary school.

Due to our impending takeover by The British Garden Centre Group, Plants’R’Ross on the South Hetton Road is having a massive sale. Plans have been passed to enlarge the garden centre.
