Easington - Down Your Way

Durham Heritage Coast is working at Easington Colliery local nature reserve should you notice a hole near one of the ponds. Members have been helping out ecologist Gary Shears to construct a hibernaculum for amphibians. They will be back soon to finish the work and there are some local lads getting stuck in. Hibernacula are places where amphibians and reptiles can see out the winter.

Faze 3 Films is making a documentary about the experience of children of miners who were on strike during 1984-85. They have begun filming but would appreciate a wider range of participants and from differing areas than those already filmed. References on Facebook on a childhood shaped by the strike, is seen as an important area to document, as many children’s lives were affected. They are based in the North East and would welcome participants from this area; Northumberland and Durham. The Ecumenical Lent Service will be held at Holy Trinity Church, South Hetton Church, on Thursday at 7pm.

St Mary’s Church PCC meeting will be held tomorrow at 7pm. The “Why Unanswered Prayer” willl take place on Saturday at 9.30am and Messy Church on Sunday at 4pm.

The Ladies’ Circle is holding a bingo evening in Seaton Holme on Tuesday, March 8, at 7.30pm in aid of funds.

An outline planning application has been made by Jon Tweddle Planning Ltd for a change of use from Easington Village Workingmen’s Club, Seaside Lane, for the erection of about 43 residential units plus infrastructure works including new access.
