Easington - Down Your Way

Easington Colliery Heritage Group has teamed up with the Creative Learning team at Sunderland Empire and East Durham Creates to celebrate the Spirit of Billy Elliott. Twenty-five people are needed to become involved in the project to form a core group of, preferably, Easington Colliery/Village residents, from a wide age range upwards of 13 years, to come together with ideas of what Billy Elliot related events and activities we can bring to Easington and to be involved in making them happen. Anything that could be given a Billy Elliot twist or theme could be considered to form part of the activities, culminating in a festival type event and social evening. Support, advice and guidance will be provided.

Haswell Mencap is in desperate need of used “green” artificial Christmas Trees, in all different sizes for one of its projects. If anyone has a tree that they could donate, ring 0191 5260987 to arrange collection.

Congratulations to Easington Academy Year 8 girls Netball Team, who took part in a tournament held at Shotton Hall in March. Easington Academy came second in the tournament beating teams from Seaham, Wellfield and The Academy at Shotton Hall. St Bede’s was the overall winner of the tournament. Well done also to Year 8 Netball Team for their win against Seaham, final score 27 - 2.

A fund raising night at Easington Colliery Social Welfare Centre was a huge success and all the money raised went to Easington Colliery Band. Over a £1,000 was raised. Thank you to all who supported and arranged the event.

Easington Activity Programme Arts and Crafts sessions will be held n Tuesday, March 29, from 10.30am-12.30pm and 1,30pm– 3,30pm. Make Easter baskets, cards, bonnets and hats. Lunch will be provided in the Church of the Ascension hall. On Wednesday, March 30, there will be a Kid’s Fun Sports Day from 10am-1pm at the Local Nature Reserve (the Old Pit site) or if the weather is bad the Easington Colliery Social Welfare Centre. The events have been funded by local Durham County Councillors David Boyes and Angela Surtees.

Easington C of E Primary School will be holding a Lent service in St Mary’s tomorrow at 2.15pm. This will be followed by discos from 5.30pm-6.45pm. On Thursday it will be a non-uniform day in aid of school funds.

An Easter event will be held in Easington Colliery Social Welfare Centre the events are ticket based, make sure you don’t miss out. On Monday, April 4, from 1pm-3pm there will be an Easter Extravaganza with roller disco and soft play, family games and prizes. Tickets are £1.50. April 5 its parents and toddlers and Easter Eatables, older siblings are welcome, from 9.30am-11.30am. Tickets are £1.50. April 6, Easter crafts and games from noon-2pm (job fair).

Join Healthworks tomorrow from 11.30am-2pm for cake and cuppa to help raise funds for its Exercise After Stroke Group. Grab a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of three great Easter prizes for only £1 per strip (tickets available at reception).

Come along to The Barn at Easington on Saturday to help celebrate spring. Activities will include egg painting and Easter gardens plus the world famous Barn Egg rolling championships.
