A Year 6 Primary Maths Challenge was held at Durham Johnston School.

Amelia Gibson, James Hutchinson, Sammy Luu and Joshua Simpson formed the Easington CofE Primary School team.

There were a number of activities to complete during the challenge which lasted for most of the day.

Unfortunately, they didn’t make it through to the next day of the challenge.

However, there was also a poster competition, a whole class effort, and they won that.

The judges said it was the best poster they had seen since the maths challenge began.

Hawthorn Community Centre has now re-opened after the refurbishment.

Weekly events are: Tuesday, art class, 10am–noon, craft class, 7pm-9pm; Wednesday, coffee mornings, 10am (second and last Wednesdays of month); Thursday, line dancing, 7pm; Friday, mother/toddler, 9.30am-11.30am.

Hall hire is £10 per hour members, £15 per hour non-members.

The Monday Club are holding a flower demonstration with the ever popular Val Guest 0n Tuesday, June 7, at 7pm.

Entry is £4 which includes refreshments. All welcome.

Hawthorn Big Lunch will be held on Sunday, June 5.

Bring along a picnic to the play area and community centre from midday.

There will be a photograph exhibition, a bouncy castle, Krazy Kev, a fire engine, bike marking and light refreshments.

The Open Garden Walk will also be held.

It was a great carnival workshop at the Barn in Easington.

Visitors made hats and hobby horses for the opening parade at The Mayhem big night for the following Saturday.

A Pact meeting will be held in Easington Colliery Social Welfare Centre tomorrow, from 6pm–7pm.

Fancy a “gramble” along the coast on Thursday, from 10-11.30am?

It’s a bit like being a Womble – ‘gramblers’ go for a nice ramble, learn about the environment and collect bits of rubbish along the way.

The first ever gramble will be around Easington Colliery Local Nature Reserve.

Local experts will talk about the history of the site and what is planned for the future.

Litter picking equipment, gloves and bags will be supplied by the Civic Pride team.

Meet at Easington Colliery car park, SR8 3QH.

Coffee and muffins for all participants.

The Barn at Easington held its second all-day training with Diane Jeffries from Wise Academies.

It had 19 participants who, despite their reservations, got in touch with their creative side.

A barn dance will be held at The Barn, Thorpe Lea East, Easington Colliery SR8 3UT on Saturday from 7pm–11pm.

It will be an evening of folk music, dancing and poetry.

Local musicians Shipcote and Friends, and Side Café Orchestra will provide the entertainment.

Enjoy local-sourced food on the BBQ, supplied by Longhorns, and a refreshing drink at the licenced bar.

Although this is a free event (excluding food and drink) it is tickets only at the gate. Contact 03000 268 131 for tickets.

It’s Wildflower Wednesday at Hawthorn Meadows on Wednesday, from 11.30am-1.30pm. A reserve officer from the Durham Wildlife Trust will take guests on a journey through one of the most beautiful denes along the Durham coastline.

Learn more about the flora and fauna and habitat management within the wooded dene itself, as well as the fantastic wildflowers of the coastal grassland, where there is a stop for a picnic lunch (not provided). Don’t forget your wildlife guides and camera!

The walk is about three miles, meet at the reserve, between Easington and Seaham.
