There are many support groups available at Healthworks, such as: MS, Diabetes, Stroke, Get Connected (Friday Club), Kitchen Garden, etc. These groups are focused on giving support to people and their family/carers. A local PCSO gave the police report at Easington Village Parish Council and noted many complaints. In the last month there were seven burglaries mainly from garages by breaking the doors. Alarms are available from your local police. They are still covering motor bikes and off road bikes. If you have a complaint take registration numbers or a description of the bike and rider and notify police either by phone or on Facebook.

Hawthorn Baby and Toddler group meets on Fridays from 9.30am to 11.30am in the newly refurbished community centre in the village. Go along for play and snacks.

Seaham and Easington Police reported that during the early hours of June 3 a number of tyres were damaged in the Office Street area of Easington Colliery. If anyone can offer any information, contact Durham Police on 101, quoting crime reference number EF1601574.

A Wildflower survey and site clear up/litter pick was held in Easington Local Nature Reserve. Thanks to the volunteers who attended. They discovered newts and saw a number of early flowers including orchids during the survey. They were excited to find a Dingy Skipper butterfly. Moth-like in appearance, this small brown and grey butterfly is extremely well camouflaged on the bare ground on which it likes to bask. Found in Britain and Ireland but becoming increasingly rare.

Durham County Councillor David Boyes gave his report at Easington Village Parish Council meeting and covered various local issues. The former King’s Head site, which has stood empty and unused for many years, has been bought. One of the oldest inns in Easington it was once a coaching station to stable horses. Building work will commence and it is to be renamed Inace House and Davace House.

There has been successful prosecutions for fly-tipping in local black spots thanks to hidden cameras.

There will be a bingo evening in Seaton Holme on Tuesday, June 28, at 7.30pm in aid of church funds.
