Hawthorn Village Fair will be held on Saturday from 11am to 3pm in Hawthorn Community Centre. There will be refreshments, raffle, stalls, Mencapand the Shaw Trust. All are welcome.

Looking for something for the children to do on a Friday? Every Friday there is free children’s activity and craft sessions at Healthworks from 4pm to 5pm. All are welcome but under-nines must be accompanied by an adul. Fo further details, ring 5274150.

Year 6 children from Easington C of E Primary School took part in their Leavers Service at Durham Cathedral. They joined more than 600 other Y6 children and school staff in an act of collective worship. They had been asked by the Joint Education Board of Durham and Newcastle Diocese to prepare and read prayers during the service.

Did you know that Healthworks has a gym? This is open from 8am to 8pm from Monday to Friday and 9am to 12.30pm on Saturday and Sunday (check the timetable for excluded sessions). Call in to have a look, a member of staff or volunteers will show you round. If you are interested in joining, call into reception to complete an eligibility form, book an induction with a qualified instructors and pick up the timetable. Sessions cost £2 and there is no annual fee.

To mark the occasion of Father’s Day, Rosemary Lane Nursery School transformed the whole nursery into a creative hub for model making and invited dads, granddads and male carers to join pupils and stff for some building fun. It was a great chance for dads to share their skills with the children. There were some very imaginative models created.

Healthworks is starting a free four-week practical cooking course starting on Monday, July 4, from10am to noon. Spaces are limited for this one, so if you are interested, call reception on 5274150 to book your place.

Easington C of E Primary School, Miss Swan and Mrs Hetherington’s class Y3 and Y4 children visited Rainton Meadows. They enjoyed exploring the wildlife and learning more about habitats. On Thursday the children worked with Chris Robinson, a local author, to learn how to write a story in a day.

There will be a family communion service at St Mary’s Church on Sunday at 4pm.
