Plans are in place for a fundraising day for Macmillan Cancer at Easington Colliery Social Welfare Centre on Sunday, July 24, with various events for children. It will be attended by the fire service and local police. This will be hosted by Andrew Price in memory of his father, Terry Price, who died last year. Richard Parker was invited to attend a Macmillan volunteer’s conference and awards in Leicester. A fantastic weekend getting a deeper insight into what Macmillan can do for people. He is on the lookout for some crazy folk to join him on the Boxing Day dip this year at Seaham to help raise awareness and boost funds.

County Durham Wellbeing For Life Service holds a free Eat Wise to Drop a Size class in Healthworks on Wednesday.

Walk4Life is a partnership project between Durham County Council Culture and Sport, with advice and support from the national charity, Ramblers. It is a programme of short, led local health walks operating across County Durham. They are designed for people to make their first steps in improving their health or simply maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The local walk is on Mondays from 10.30am to 11.30am from Easington Colliery, former pit car park, Abbot Street, off Seaside Lane. For more information contact your local organiser Hazel on 5270043

There will be Resurrection and Pentecostal meetings in St Mary’s Church hall on July 6 and 20 at 5.30pm.

At the East Durham Area Action Partnership (AAP) board meeting on June 8, chairman Malcolm Fallow presented certificates to three people from the East Durham Area who were nominated for the Chairman’s medal 2016. Overall in the East Durham Area they received more than 15 entries about individuals and groups who have undertaken a variety of voluntary and community work within their communities.

County Durham Community Foundation with two of its East Durham Learning Working Earning apprentices, Sam and Jamie, who have secured employment through their funding. The aim of the East Durham Learning Working Earning Programme is to support unemployed individuals aged 16 to 25 living in the East Durham area who have been offered employment linked to an apprenticeship or accredited work-based learning but who, without financial support, would be unable to take up the offer. It also supports businesses with funding towards the costs associated with employing those individuals.

Get Connected, formerly the Friday Club, meets on Fridays from 12.30pm to 2.30pm at Healthworks and is a safe space for those living with mental health issues to socialise and enjoy themselves. It will be trying out lots of fun, creative and interesting activities. From quizzes to coffee mornings to arts and crafts sessions, there’s bound to be something you enjoy. If you would like to go along, register your interest at reception as places are limited.
