Easington - Down Your Way

Easington Village Parish Council's Annual Christmas tree lighting event will take place on Wednesday 7th December at 3.30pm. There will be a selection of craft stalls and Santa's Grotto. Those children wanting to visit Santa will need a Santa Pass (60 available) which are available free of charge from either Easington CE Primary School or Seaton Holme. There will be refreshments available. This event has been organised and funded by Easington Village Parish Council in partnership with Easington Colliery Regeneration Partnership and County Councillors D Boyes and A Surtees.

Grahame Morris MP officially launched Eileen Hopper’s book “Seaton Holme How it served Easington’s Community Through the Ages” with a speech. Publisher Andrew Clark from Summerhill Books gave a talk on the display of old fashioned artifacts and times gone by. The book will be on sale at Seaton Holme, St. Mary’s Church Fair, the Village News and on line at Amazon and Summerhill Books at £7.

Easington Local Nature Reserve have been building a Hibernacula, a toad house for the Winter, and thanks to all the volunteers who attended. Thanks to community volunteers Mavis, Tom and Clare, County Councillors Angela Surtees and David Boyes, Durham County Ecology Officer Gary Shears, East Durham AAP Officers Ian Moran and Wayne Gibson, CAFE Together Bill and Julie for the super hot broth and Easington Colliery Band for opening the Band Room for them and Mr Welsh for pallets to build it.

Easington Village Woman’s Institute are holding their Christmas Party on Monday 19 December with entertainment by Peter Kelly. This is an open meeting for friends and family.

The Church of the Ascension is looking for singers to sing once a month with the band at the Sunday service, also looking for a keyboard player. If you are interested please contact Roger Key, Church Warden.

A new CD has been released to raise funds for our local Church of the Ascension. Easington Colliery and St Mary’s Church, Easington Village. They are only £5and would make a nice Christmas gift and help raise much needed funds for our churches. Order your copy now Roger Key can deliver if required, on Facebook. Roger has worked so hard to produce this CD and it has some great tracks from a group of talented performers such as The Reverend Emma, the Praise Band, the Gospel Choir, Roger Key and Lucy Playle.

Easington C of E Primary School holds their Christmas Fayre on Friday 9th December at 2.30pm in the School Hall.

A church service will be held in Birchwood Care Home on Saturday 10 December at 11am.

The East Durham Creates Christmas party on Friday 16 December, 6pm until late at Easington Social Welfare Centre. A magical evening suitable for all the family! Free festive face painting, Christmas arts and crafts activities for all ages, plus performances from Bread and Butter Theatre. Join in with some Christmas carols and party tunes performed by East Durham College and dance the night away to our people’s playlist with DJ Marky Mark.
