Early days on fresh Sunderland move for Swansea's Andre Ayew
Andre Ayew's camp are yet to even hold talks with Swansea over the winger's future, despite suggestions of Sunderland reviving a move for the January target.
Sunderland made a formal bid for Ayew during the last transfer window, but it was rejected by Swansea who were unwilling to offload their top scorer to one of their relegation rivals at the time.
After Sunderland secured a spot in the Premier League for next season, there has already been speculation that Sam Allardyce will revive his interest in Ayew, particularly after confirming last weekend that a winger was one of his priorities for the summer.
But sources close to Ayew have indicated that it is far too early in the transfer window to even suggest that the Ghanaian international will leave Swansea this summer, despite Allardyce being understood to still be a big fan.
There have been no talks so far between Ayew and Swansea over the club’s plans for him after netting 12 Premier League goals during his maiden season at the Liberty Stadium, following a Bosman move from Marseille.
Dicussions are planned for the coming weeks, but even if Swansea agree to sell Ayew, there is no guarantee that he will be willing to move to the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland are one of a number of clubs who have been keeping tabs on the 26-year-old, with West Ham among those that are also interested.
For all Sunderland pushed for a shock move for Ayew in the January window too, there was never any indication from the player himself that he was unhappy with south Wales.
Ayew remained coy over his future earlier this week when asked if the summer would spell the end of his time at Swansea, who finished eight points and five places above Sunderland in the Premier League table.
“I’m happy here. If I have to stay, fine. If I have to leave, I have to leave,” he said.
“We’ll see what’s going to happen, we’ll have a discussion and see the way forward.”
Meanwhile, Sunderland target Clement Chantome has been linked with a move to La Liga outfit Malaga.
The Black Cats have watched Bordeaux midfielder Chantome on several occasions over recent months after they have been keeping tabs on the French market since the huge impact of January imports Wahbi Khazri and Lamine Kone.
Chantome’s contract at Bordeaux - the former club of Khazri - expires this summer and he announced last month that he will leave the Ligue 1 outfit.
But reports in France have indicated that Chantome’s next move could be to Spain, with Malaga interested in the 28-year-old.
