Durham Sunday League: Wild Boar All-Stars floor Ferryhill to keep alive promotion push

Houghton came close to scoring on a few occasions, with a Joe Robinson header cleared off the line, before the deadlock was broken on 25 minutes.

Liam Lusk was upended in the penalty area and Lusk coolly slotted the ball past the keeper from the resulting penalty.

Two minutes later, Chris Rogerson linked nicely with Nick Thompson down the left before passing to Lusk, whose cross was slid in by Shaun Corner to double Boar’s lead.

The home side then had a Nick Thompson goal disallowed for offside when the ball was saved by the keeper and landed at his feet.

Nile Rutter cleverly lobbed keeper Sean Simpson to pull one back for Hub, but Boar regained their two-goal advantage when star man Karl Anderson pulled the ball back from the line, after a great run down the right, and Lusk knocked it in.

It was 4-1 on 82 minutes when Corner pulled the ball back for Nick Thompson to score.

Langley Park won an entertaining game 5-3 against High Handenhold Bird Inn, a match which brought six bookings and two sendings off.

Langley took the lead with an own goal, before a great run and finish by Steven Cummings doubled the lead.

They then had Matthew Wilkie and Ryan Langley sent off and Bird capitalised to level at 2-2.

The hosts changed the team around with nine men and secured victory, and a climb to third place, with further strikes from Steven Mickle (2) and sub Mike Barker.

Star man Ian Slater, Marc Wood and Jonny Swift struck for Bird.

Bishop Middleham, four up at half-time, ran out 6-3 winners against Pelton Crown.

Callum Bramwell, Jonathan Hornsby, Jack Robson and Craig Bowmer (penalty) had Middleham on top at the break.

But Pelton came back brilliantly in the second half, rallying to 4-3 with efforts from Dean Stewart, Connor Shaw and sub Liam Mitchell, within 15 minutes of the restart.

Bishop, though, stuck at it and sealed victory with further goals from Robson and David Redfern.

Burnside WMC made it seven league wins out of seven, thanks to a 2-0 success at Bede Lodge SC.

Star man Max Stoker and Callum Munro notched, with Daniel Mann best for Bede.

Bowburn remain in the Third Division promotion hunt despite being held to a 1-1 draw at Pittington.

Sub Adam Birks notched for the visitors, with Jonny Scott hitting Pittington’s goal.

Reece Jones stood out for the home side, while Craig Hill was Bowburn’s top man.

Hetton New Inn leapfrogged Ouston Juniors into fourth-bottom spot following a close-fought 2-1 win, although they have played three games more.

Man of the match Jordan Knox and sub Rhett Parnaby bagged the vital goals for New Inn.

Sam Hedley shone for Ouston.

Houghton Chilton Lodge secured three precious First Division points by edging a 1-0 win over Coxhoe Red Lion.

In a poor game, Coxhoe struck the crossbar twice and relied on their defence and good goalkeeping to keep the scoreline down. They had Michael Cairns sent off, with Michael Owen their star man.

Lodge’s win lifted them up two places to third-bottom spot

Hilda Park consolidated sixth place with a 3-2 victory away to fifth-top Framwellgate Moor WMC.

Daniel Addison’s double inspired Hilda, with Craig Thompson also on target, while Stephen Clifford was man of the match. Star man Jack Rutter and Sam Plant also notched.

Durham Buffaloes Head enjoyed a derby day to savour in Division Four as they outgunned Bearpark 3-0 to claim only their third win of the season.

An early Ryan Mundell penalty was saved by Michael Crooks, with Mundell following up to hit home the rebound.

The game was very stop-start, but Buffaloes went on to win another penalty which Mundell converted, then Wayne Gardiner added a third to seal all three points.

John Blake stood out for Bearpark, Simon Booth for Buffs.

East Rainton proved too strong for visitors Durham Rangers, and duly ran out 5-1 winners to move within four points of leaders Lambton Lions, and still with three games in hand.

Andrew Shepherd fired a hat-trick, with Lee Gaunt and Ollie Hotchkiss also on target. Ryan Huntley replied, with Callum Gritton Rangers’ top performer.

Third-top Grange Villa moved seven points clear of Gateshead Last Orders with a 9-1 demolition of bottom club Witton Gilbert WMC.

Michael Gray scored five goals as Villa went goal crazy, backed by Mark Greener’s double and a Jordan Hook strike.

The scoring was completed when Villa keeper James Davidson scored direct from a free-kick well inside his own half.

Witton Gilbert’s goal was David Lumley penalty, with keeper Ryan Fowler their man of the match.

Ouston Cherry Tree picked up three crucial points against bottom side Sacriston WMC to boost their Premier Division survival hopes.

Andrew Clarkson opened the scoring with a thunderous drive from outside the box, after being played in by a good ball from centre-half Joe Wilkinson on the half hour mark.

Ouston looked to have sealed the win early in the second half, when Chad Brennan slotted in after good work from Jak Gordon.

Steven Wood scored from well inside his own half a couple of minutes later, his clearance of a bouncing ball flying all the way over the stranded Sacriston goalkeeper to give Ouston some breathing space at 3-0.

However, that breathing space didn’t last long, with Sacriston pulling back two quickfire goals, from Tom Winter and an own goal, to set up a tense finale.

Ouston held out for the win, including a phenomenal save from stand-in keeper Thomas Gray. Jacob Horner was Sacriston’s top man, but, with just four games to go, they look doomed to the drop.

Pelton RAOB were good 3-0 winners at Sacriston Cricket Club, with Jack Honour (2) and Kevin Dixon on target to take the defending champions back into top spot.

Buffs moved above Sedgefield St Edmund’s on goal difference, with a game in hand too.

Keeper Joe Thompson was outstanding for the cricketers.

Newton Aycliffe Locomotion stayed four points behind in third, with two games in hand, thanks to a 2-0 victory at Brandon Sports Club.

Star man Stuart Owen and sub Danny Richmond netted. Lee Blades was Brandon’s top performer.
