Durham Sunday League: Meenaghan magic helps Chilton Lodge secure vital win in six-pointer against Whitehills

Man of the match Ross Meenaghan led the way with a clinical brace for Lodge, backed by strikes from Andrew Bowes and Anthony Armstrong.

Lodge’s bright start paid off with an opener, but great work by Ryan Grayson set up a cracking equaliser from John Adamson.

Lodge regained the lead from the spot, but James Cattell levelled at 2-2, again assisted by Grayson.

Lodge netted a third goal, despite Whitehills claiming offside, then were awarded a disputed penalty for handball by Adam Chipperfield, who was sent off to add salt to the wound.

Lodge duly went 4-2 up and they won, despite conceding a late strike to James Mansell, netting after Steven Boroumand hit the post.

Framwellgate Moor WMC rallied from 2-0 and 4-3 down before winning a thriller 5-4 at Ferryhill Dynamoes.

Captain Ian Field led by example with a double for Fram, backed by strikes from James Smith, Chris Pattinson and Wayne Gardner.

Vinny Gash (2), John Poulson and Reece Marshall notched for Dynamoes, with Chris Devine starring.

Craig Smith and Craig Crosby struck as Washington Cross Keys drew 2-2 at Coxhoe Red Lion on a sodden pitch, with the visitors rueing their failure to take their chances. Jamie Appleby, with a 20-yard free-kick, and Daniel Davis replied.

West Rainton moved a point behind leaders Hilda Park after a hard-fought 2-2 draw at New Brancepeth WMC.

After a scrappy start, John Kidd put Brancepeth ahead, but Rainton levelled with a penalty after Chris Dunham’s foul. Rainton stormed ahead, but the hosts equalised when Karl Turner’s free-kick was turned into his own net by centre back Jamie Bowes.

Despite having Ryan Wilkinson sent off, Brancepeth were closest to a winner, with Turner just missing out late on. Adam Purvis starred for the hosts.

Houghton Wild Boar All-Stars moved up to fourth-bottom spot in Division One with a well-fought 2-2 draw at High Handenhold Bird Inn, thanks to Liam Lusk’s last-minute leveller.

On a poor, uneven, muddy pitch, Liam McKitten struck the bar from 20 yards in a goalless first half.

Boar took the lead three minutes into the second half when Steve Tunstall bundled the ball home following a mega goalmouth scramble.

Marc Wood, though, equalised two minutes later. Lusk had an effort ruled out for pushing, to Boar’s dismay, and High Handenhold broke away to go 2-1 up on 75 minutes, Lee Johnson scoring.

Boar were rewarded for their constant attacks, though, when Shaun Corner’s right-wing run and cross, after a bad goal kick, was well met by the head of Lusk.

Bede Lodge SC squeezed home 3-2 against morning leaders Ushaw Moor Cricket Club in an entertaining clash which could have gone either way.

Stuart Thompson’s brace and a Josh Elliott strike did the damage, with Alex Wilson starring as Bede’s quality of possession finally told. Mark Burnham and Paul Taylor had Ushaw 2-0 up at one point, with Dale Morris top man for Ushaw Moor.

Pelton Crown edged a topsy-turvy clash 3-2 at Langley Park to go top, courtesy of Liam Mitchell’s brilliant hat-trick.

Pelton were on the front foot from the off, with Langley again struggling for numbers, and they led 1-0 at the break.

Langley improved and a Steven Mickle brace put them ahead, only for Crown to capitalise on two defensive mistakes to snatch victory. Connor Shaw was man of the match, with Matty Wilkie starring for Langley.

Bishop Middleham were held 1-1 by Chester 18Seven Bar.

Debutant Mark Ferguson had Bishop ahead with a header until the 90th minute when Jak Penny levelled. Stephen Wood starred for Chester, Robson Leach for the home side.

Defending champions Pelton RAOB had to come from behind to outgun lowly Chilton WMC 6-1 to move second in the Premier Division.

Chilton led with Joe Cornwall’s 30-yard drive into the top corner of the net, but Pelton soon levelled and were ahead at half-time.

Chilton pushed for an equaliser, but Pelton’s keeper stood firm and they scored four times on the break to finish convincing winners.

James Latham (3), Chris Winn (2) and Jack Honour struck for Buffs. Michael Searby shone for Chilton.

Sherburn Village handed out a 6-0 beating to sloppy visitors Sacriston Cricket Club, who remain bottom of the table.

Man of the match Nick Marley led the way with a clinical hat-trick as Sacriston secured only a second league win, backed by strikes from Scott Arnott, Garry Dodds and sub Steven Forster.

Waldridge Park and Ouston Cherry Tree served up a 3-3 thriller.

A fine move led to Adam Campbell Bell rounding the keeper and setting up Chris Days to slot Waldridge ahead.

Tree replied within a minute, but Bell quickly restored Park’s lead. Luke Hilliard made a great save from a free-kick to keep them in front, but a header from another set piece levelled it up at 2-2.

Bell, set free by Chris Ryder, had the hosts 3-2 up only for a cracking strike to make it 3-3. Mark Bailes, Jak Gordon and Andrew Clarkson netted for Ouston.

Lumley consolidated second place in Division Three thanks to an entertaining 4-2 Division Three win over Lumley Snooker Club.

Star man Jonny Cossar, two-goal Sam Harris and Jack Liddle did the damage.

Dubmire WMC maintained top spot thanks to a 6-1 success at Newton Hall Jovial Monk, whose marksman was Matthew Williams.

James Gardiner bagged a hat-trick to spark Dubmire, backed by James Murray, Micky Donkin and a 25-yard Ian Lucas free-kick. Michael Cooney starred for Monk.

Sedgefield SC outgunned Ouston Juniors 4-1 to leapfrog their visitors into fourth-bottom spot.

Ouston got back to 3-1 on the stroke of half-time through Ryan Bell. Sam Hedley was their star man.

East Rainton bounced back from two defeats to outgun Sacriston The Shoes 10-0.

Skipper Ollie Hotchkiss, back from injury, ran the show, scoring one goal and setting up four to win the man-of-the-match award.

James Wood hit five goals, with Lee Gaunt grabbing three and Ryan Shaw also netting.

Table-toppers Lambton Lions proved too strong for Durham Buffaloes Head in a 5-0 romp.

Jack Young, Michael Hall, Lewis Mitchinson, Jack Braban and Ben Goodwin all struck, with Matthew Rowntree star man.

Bearpark WMC took charge with a first-minute Craig Bennett goal on their way to a 5-1 victory at Quarrington Hill WMC.

Bennett, Dylan Crooks (2) and an own goal, with John Blake claiming the strike, guided second-top Bearpark to victory.

Durham Rangers were sunk 4-0 by visitors Gateshead Last Orders, who dominated from the off.

Keeper Daniel Peterkin starred in vain for Rangers a Mark McClannan’s introduction from the bench inspired Last Orders, who broke the deadlock after his first touch created a goal for Chris Daley.

Star man Masixole Moss and two-goal Jonny Graham also notched.

Burnside WMC romped into the fourth round of the JD Taxis Guards Cup with a 12-1 demolition of Ferryhill Community Hub.

Three goals in the first eight minutes set the tone, and it was 7-1 by the interval.

Six goals from Callum Munro led the way, though the man of the match was Craig Ellison, who bagged five goals. Full-back Kevin Hudson also notched.

Hetton New Inn were no match for Ferryhill Celtic, who eased home 6-0. Lee Francis was New Inn’s star man.

Jonny Agar (2), Marco Linhart, Luke Thompson, Anthony Phillips and Kyle Wren struck for Celtic, with Daniel Mitton starring.

Newton Aycliffe Locomotion made fantastic progress into the last 32 of the FA Sunday Cup, beating West Bowling, the champions of the Bradford Sunday League, 4-1 at Shildon.

Corey Nicholson bagged a memorable hat-trick, with Sonny Andrews hitting a free-kick into the top corner in front of a decent crowd.

In the North West Durham Cup, Chester Garden Farm saw off Grange Villa 5-0, after the tie was very even until the opener came when Ben Jefferson was off for treatment.

Sacriston WMC lost their tie 4-3 to Winlaton West End.
