Durham Sunday League: East Rainton sink Garden Farm to lift President's Trophy in dramatic final

Lee Gaunt, James Wood and sub Stuart Bleanch came up trumps for Rainton, with player-boss Ollie Hotchkiss man of the match.

Jordan Gibson struck for Farm, whose top performer was Jordan Stevens.

Next Friday, Rainton have another final to look forward to, tackling Premier big-shots Newton Aycliffe Huntsman in the Castle Insurance Alan Smith Trophy final, back at New Ferens Park (7.30pm kick-off).

Sherburn Village got their Premier Division title push back on track with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Ferryhill Dynamos.

The leaders, who suffered a first defeat (1-0) to Pelton RAOB in midweek, grafted hard and won thanks to efforts from Joe Simpson and James Ellis either side of a Vinny Gash strike for impressive Dynamos.

Pelton RAOB’s title claims suffered a potentially fatal blow as Newton Aycliffe Huntsman beat the defending champions 4-1.

Buffs had a man sent off for an off-the-ball incident and Kieran Megran immediately smashed home the opener, after his initial effort hit the post.

Megran beat the offside trap for 2-0, then Corey Nicholson fired into the top corner and Megan completed his hat-trick with a magnificent 20-yard volley over the keeper.

Buffs replied with a late penalty.

Houghton Town blew a 4-2 lead as Brandon Sports Club rallied for a point in a 4-4 draw.

Andrew Morris, Michael Fort and Scott Bryden (2) moved Brandon out of the drop zone.

Sacriston Cricket Club edged closer to the drop after a 2-1 defeat at Sedgefield St Edmund’s.

In midweek, Pelton beat understrength Ferryhill Celtic 6-1 and Sherburn win 3-0 at Houghton, thanks to James Ellis, Joe Simpson and Jamie Taylor.

Durham County are favourites to land the First Division title after edging a brilliant game 1-0 at leaders Burnside WMC.

Both sides produced a great advertisement for the league, with the game decided by a magnificent goal, with Jack Carr curling in from 20 yards to hand Burnside their first league defeat.

James Huntley shone for County, with Max Stoker best for Burnside.

New Brancepeth WMC edged a 3-2 win over mid-table rivals Hilda Park.

Andrew Nicholson capitalised on a fumble by keeper David Passmore to hit the home opener, and Robbie Barrass hit a second.

Chris Days scrambled one back, but John Kidd finished a counter-attack to make it 3-1, before Dan Moses chested in a cross to complete the scoring.

Bottom club Coxhoe Red Lion boosted their survival bid with a third win of the season, 3-2 at Sacriston WMC.

Bottom club Houghton Chilton Lodge secured only their third win in Division Two, 2-0 against second-bottom Lumley.

Chilton dominated the game and took advantage with a 35th-minute goal from Adam Hinde, the club’s first goal for a long time.

Lumley pressed well in the second half, but a quick break brought a clinching second home goal, finished off by Graeme McKenna. Stephen Hall starred for Lodge, Lindsay Collinson for Lumley.

East Rainton continued their title push with a 6-1 rout of Grange Villa WMC, helped by two penalties.

Jon Gaunt bagged a clinical hat-trick, with Lee Gaunt (2) and Alex Cogle also on target. Liam Mitchell had given Villa the lead.

The visitors had Ben Jefferson sent off and ended with nine men as Micky Gray went off injured.

Lambton Lions drew 2-2 with leaders Ouston Juniors.

Lions led, but Conner Anderson and Scott Johnson (penalty) turned it around for the visitors before the home side equalised.

Matty Rowntree and Simon Grant hit Lions’ goals, with keeper Craig Foster starring. Andy Robertson stood out for Ouston.

Ushaw Moor Cricket Club made it three wins in a row, beating Lumley Snooker Club 3-2 away.

Mark English broke the deadlock, deftly dinking the ball over the advancing keeper.

Goals from subs James Richardson and Jay Wilson made it 3-0,before Lumley notched twice in the final few minutes, with the visitors claiming offside for one.

Pittington were made to work hard for a 3-1 home win over never-say-die Bowburn.

Gareth Sheraton, Karl Hutchinson and James Donaldson netted, with Stephen Burke replying. Bowburn’s star man was keeper Paul Atkinson, with Jonny Scott best for Pittington.

Whitehills won 3-1 at Sedgefield SC, with Callum Grieves, Stephen Jackson and Chris Savage striking.

On Monday, East Rainton walloped Dubmire 6-0, with James Wood, Olly Hotchkiss (2), Jon Gaunt, Lee Gaunt and Elliot Salicki striking.

Dubmire lost 8-3 to Chester Garden Farm 24 hours later, when Ryan Johnson (4) and Christian Loughlin (3) starring.

Paul Botcherby, David Tyson and Paul Corlett (2) earned Lumley Snooker a 4-4 draw with Pittington. Mark English netted as Ushaw Moor beat Bowburn, netting after David Stanley’s strike was well saved.

Gilesgate Woodman Inn stepped up their Fourth Division promotion push with a fine 2-0 win over leaders Hetton Social Club.

Richard Begg bagged both goals.

Witton Gilbert Club won the battle of the bottom two 5-2 at Durham Buffaloes Head to all but ensure that the hosts will finish in bottom spot.

David Lumley slotted in from close range for Witton’s opener, but Buffs equalised before half-time.

David Calcutt’s brace, a penalty and a free-kick, and a Daniel Sanderson strike guided Witton 4-1 up. Buffs responded with an own goal, but star man Chris Lambert hit the killer fifth goal.

Durham Rangers ran out 7-2 winners at Bishop Middleham, who had David Redfern and Craig Bowmer on target.

Charlie Salicki (4), Jonny Marshall, Chris Brown and Luke Muldown hit Durham’s goals.

Chester Park Inn outgunned Sacriston The Shoes 4-1 in their eagerly-awaited derby, thanks to doubles from Steven Haswell and Andrew Illingworth, with Kyle Brown starring.

Jack McRobbie netted for Shoes, whose top man was Kyle Dodds.

In midweek, Hetton Social led 3-1 before losing 4-3 at Durham Rangers, with Adam Watson volleying the winner.
