Durham Jets succumbed to a 35-run defeat in their opening match in the Emirates Airline T20 Trophy in Dubai today.

Pakistan side Peshawar Zalmi posted a match-winning 143-6 at the ICC Academy, led by a 44-ball knock of 57 from Nabi Gul and Adil Amin’s unbeaten 22.

Brandon Carse took 2-23 from his four overs, with Chris Rushworth (1-39), James Weighell (1-17) and George Harding (1-32) also striking.

Durham started their response strongly, putting on 59 for the first wicket before Adam Hickey fell for a 26-ball 21. fellow opener Paul Collingwood departed shortly after, following five boundaries in a 36-ball 41 to leave Durham 65-2 after 10.1 overs.

Only two other batsman reached double figures, though, Graham Clark making 11 and Ryan Pringle 13 before the Riverside men were dismissed for 108 with seven balls to spare.

The last six wickets fell for the loss of just 17 runs.

Imran Khan was the star of the show for Peshawar, with 5-24. Asif Ali took 2-17.

Durham meet MCC in their second Group B game early tomorrow. The group winners will face Lancashire Lightning or Lahore Qalanders in the final later tomorrow.
