Drivers caught being reckless on road near Sunderland

The BMW 1 Series and Golf GTI drivers were captured racing at speeds up to 50mph.

The drivers - both in white cars - were heading towards Wearside on the A690 when they sped by a motorist who captured their manoeuvres on film using a dash camera and a rear view camera.

This driver was in the right-hand lane of the dual carriageway Durham Road - travelling at the 50mph speed limit - when the BMW 1 Series and Volkswagen Golf GTI sped past him and undertook on the left-hand lane.

Footage from the rear camera shows both cars overtaking another vehicle before swerving back into the inside lane to zoom past - without signalling to other motorists.

Both cars pass on the inside before the Golf driver swerves into the outside lane to take over the BMW - again without indicating.

The BMW then swings into the outside lane behind the Golf and they race off into the distance.

The video was recorded on April 22. In the YouTube description, it said: “These two idiots come flying up swerving lanes - looks like they’re having a race?”
