Driver taken to hospital after one-car crash closes busy road

A driver has been taken to hospital and a road was closed off to traffic after a one-car collision.

Durham Constabulary and the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) were called to the B1281 at Hesleden Road, which links the A19 with Blackhall, just before 10.50am today, Tuesday, October 20, following a report of a crash.

The collision, which happened close to the junction for the Hardwicke Hall Manor Hotel, involved a Honda Jazz, with just the driver in the vehicle at the time.

A double-crewed ambulance was sent to the scene and took the driver to the University Hospital of North Tees in Stockton for further treatment.

Police confirmed only minor injuries were sustained in the incident, which led officers to divert traffic away from the area while the scene was cleared and the car was recovered.

It was back open to motorists by noon, with the force thanking people for their patience.
