Driver arrested after biker is left seriously hurt in collision on Sunderland's Hylton Road

Northumbria Police collision investigators are appealing for help after the incident, which happened on Hylton Road, near to the junction of Portsmouth Road and Grindon Lane on the lead down to Hylton Bank.
Officers rushed to the scene following a report of the collision between a car and a 26-year-old motorcyclist at about 1pm today, Thursday, April 9.

Hide AdPolice have confirmed the 27-year-old driver of the car has been arrested as part of initial inquiries.
Emergency services attended and the motorcyclist was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation into the collision continues and Hylton Road has since been re-opened to traffic.
Chief Inspector Sam Rennison, of Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols Department, said: “The motorcyclist is undergoing emergency treatment at hospital and we are supporting his family at this time.

Hide Ad“Officers were quickly on scene and the driver of the vehicle involved has been arrested as part of our initial enquiries.
“We now need to speak to anyone who saw the incident so we can establish the exact circumstances around the collision.”
Chief Insp Rennison added: “The roads are quieter but we have still had two very serious collisions in the past two days.
“Please follow the Government advice and stay home.
“You should only be using our road network if it is absolutely necessary.”
