Last night’s success caps an excellent season for the boys, who reached the last 16 of the English Schools’ Trophy before losing to Hambleton and Richmand in a penalty shoot-out, after a match they should have won.

Hambleton have since reached the final and will play Aldershot and Farnborough.

Sunderland Boys Under-14s also lifted silverware last night, seeing off Newcastle Boys 3-1 to lift the South Tyneside Trophy.

Last season, Newcastle beat Sunderland twice comfortably, so last night’s result was a tremendous achievement.

After a first round bye, Sunderland won 3-2 at Darlington before beating Stockton on penalties after a 1-1 semi-final draw.
